BRINGING A WRECKED GT4 BACK TO LIFE WITH SCRAPLIFE

Lee Carter, owner, and operator at LeeC Parts & ScrapLife Garage alongside Austin & Alex Edwards. They are experts in their trade in the used auto parts industry and have created quite a following on their social media platforms. Fortunately, we have been working with them since their beginning and have had the opportunity to watch them grow firsthand.

Back in August we received an exciting proposal for a project from ScrapLife. The project was a collaboration effort between Scraplife, eBay motors and A-Plus to turn a wrecked car into a race car. Lee reached out with a salvaged Porsche Cayman GT4 needing a partial wrap and livery design. The GT4 was completely repaired at the hands of ScrapLife Garage. From new bumpers, headlights, hood, fenders, along with many amounts of parts and labor to repair the structural integrity underneath the shell of the car. Instead of having the body panels repainted to match, due to cost and completion deadline, it was off to our shop to get everything wrapped.

Getting started on the livery was straight forward with minimal stipulations on design. Lee has always been an easy client to work with, trusting us to bring his ideas to life. If you know of ScrapLife & LeeC Parts, they are a proud Maryland based company. The first thing was to wrap the roof in their typical grayscale Maryland Flag pattern. Lee wanted a race car, a car moving 100mph standing still. We were instructed to incorporate their company colors of orange and black and to maximize the company logo for prime real estate. To finish the livery design of any race car, add the number plates with the native 410 area code as their number. Once we had the template drawn up, we sent it over for the final approval. As we mentioned before, Lee is an easy client to work with. With minor tweaks and changes, we were cleared for take-off. The GT4 was on our schedule, and we waited for its arrival.

The project was underway, and we were enjoying every minute of it. First things first, was to get the GT4 all one color. The perfect color match was landed on an Oracal silver vinyl that was as close as we could have hoped for. We wrapped the hood, Fenders and both front and rear bumpers, and the car was beginning to look factory, for the time being because next, was the fun part. Let’s make this Porsche a racecar.

As we begin getting the graphics prepped for installation, we take into consideration all the obstructions and curves on a GT4, primarily the large rear quarter vents and hips. Planning forward as much as possible, because we have one shot at this, and we need to get this done on time. Once installation begins it is working pieces down one by one to create the flow.

Fortunately, we were able to get the graphics printed on one full sheet to help allow alignment and installation to be a breeze.

Once the base layer is laid down, the perfect touch to turn this into a true racecar livery are the sponsor logos and number plates. Proper placement and color balance is crucial as you need the information to be legible and complimentary to the livery design. A race car design can be instantly ruined with poor execution of the sponsor logos and any general text a client asks. If you cannot read it, it is a wasted investment as far as a sponsor is concerned. Sharp contrast and bold outlines help when dealing with tough color combinations. Fortunately for us, this GT4 and Lee’s vision worked seamlessly.

Once we completed the car, Lee was picking up the next day to tie up a few things and hit the road for his tour with eBay Motors. 2022 LAMBORGHINI HURACAN EVO SPYDER – XPEL STEALTH PPF

It’s not every day we have our customers order a car, spec’d to perfection, with immediate plans of changing that car once it arrives. I know it may sound silly but that’s exactly what happened with this 2022 Lamborghini Huracan EVO Spyder, and it came out amazing.

A longtime customer of ours reached out with the exciting news that he had just ordered a new Huracan. Luckily for us, every time he gets something new the first thing on his mind is protection. He knows that all cars should be well taken care of but when it comes to something of this caliber, protection is necessary if you want to retain value. As the conversation progressed, he let us know he had chosen a beautiful metallic grey exterior over a bright green interior with just the right amount of forged carbon trim pieces. This news was great for us of course! He then told us he wanted to do something a little different for this project, he was interested in going with our STEALTH Paint protection film from XPEL. This film would not only offer full vehicle protection to the car, warrantied for 10 years, but it would also change its finish from gloss to satin. He had ordered the car specifically this way because he knew this grey exterior would look fantastic under XPEL’s STEALTH film. We could not have agreed more.

As some of you may already know, certain cars can be ordered in satin or matte finish from the factory. You could then choose to either protect them with STEALTH PPF or not. While this may sound appealing, it’s typically much more expensive than a standard gloss color and can be a nightmare to fix when repainting panels in the case of an accident. For those reasons, our customer trusted us to get the car exactly how he had dreamed of while keeping some money in his pocket and preserving some piece of mind down the road.

The project itself was quite involved, from its initial prep all the way to the final wipe down. Our detailers Garret and Austin went through it meticulously getting it ready for the film to be applied. A great PPF job starts here, the more you can clean and flush out every crack and crevasse the smoother the installation will go. This will not only save time in the long run, it also helps with the more obvious fact that no one wants dirt or debris under their film.

It then switched hands and came over to me to be wrapped. Typical full wraps only stretch a few days but this one took a little longer due to the difficulty of the car and the fact that it was going STEALTH. Here at A Plus we truly pride ourselves on ensuring your vehicle leaves here with the best coverage possible. We look to wrap every edge and corner as much as we can. However, this is especially important when the car is switching its finish to satin. By going the extra mile and taking the time, we do our best to avoid seeing any slivers of the previously glossy paint, giving it a smooth factory finish in the end.

I believe all cars can wear this STEALTH film and look great, but there is almost no disputing that this Lamborghini Huracan is almost meant for it. The car is decorated in sharp body lines from head to toe and those are only accentuated more by this satin finish. As the car was being wrapped you could see them reveal themselves panel by panel. Often, when wrapping a car STEALTH, there is a section of the car that we as installers really look forward to seeing completed, a panel that in some sense or another comes alive from this change in finish. I can with confidence say that for me that was the entire car. Like a good book, I just wanted to keep going. In the end, it left me with a great sense of satisfaction and left the car with an aggressive presence.

Overall, the car came out fantastic, the bright green accents against the smooth grey exterior was really something to see. I try to not pick favorites, but this is up there at the top of my list. The owner was extremely excited to see the finished project and felt as though we had made his vision into reality. He was also now able to fully enjoy his new car and drive it knowing it was ready for anything.

1968 CAMARO PROTECTED HEAD-TO-TOE IN XPEL PPF

The idea of protecting your paint can resonate better with new vehicle owners but what if your pride and joy is 30+ years old? Paint protection film isn’t necessarily new technology but with recent advancements in longevity and clarity, covering your full vehicle in PPF is becoming a lot more popular.

Here at A-Plus we love working with all types of vehicles, Tesla, Ferrari, Porsche, Mini-cooper, RV’s, golf carts…etc., If it has four wheels, we will protect it! So, when our client presented us with his 1968 Camaro, noting his fear of chipping the near perfect paint job, we knew PPF would be the best solution for him. Installing XPEL paint protection film to the entire exterior will prevent common road debris and regular rock chips from ruining your paint. Is my car too old to PPF? Great question, a lot of folks believe it only makes sense to apply PPF to brand new vehicles. While that is mostly the case, you can apply paint protection film to any painted surface, good or bad condition. It doesn’t make much sense to protect a bumper that already has 20+ rock chips, but if you have 1-5 rock chips, we can fill them in prior to installation and will now prevent any more chips from occurring moving forward. This Camaro had perhaps 1-2 tiny chips before we installed our XPEL PPF, we simply touched up these areas and locked it all in with the film. Installation on older vehicles can require a lot more time and patience when it comes to PPF. 99% of new vehicles are mapped out in XPEL’s DAP software, meaning that I can type “2021 Tesla Model 3” in our software and can view every single panel of that Tesla in 2d form, and can cut out what we need from there. With older vehicles, there are next to no patterns in DAP, and regarding this Camaro, I believe they didn’t have a single pattern for us to use. What does this mean? It means that we must carefully make our own templates and patterns, panel-by-panel. For the most part, the body of the Camaro wasn’t too difficult, working on a bright-gloss white car is almost more challenging than working on an older vehicle. To make sure there isn’t a single piece of debris, or hair, or shirt fuzz under the PPF, we methodically wrap each panel with precision to ensure your vehicle looks better than it did when it arrived. We believe that a great PPF installation should be invisible to the naked eye. We tuck all our edges where applicable. Remove any badging (if requested), and any other simple parts that can be easily removed without creating issues. We take our installation process and quality seriously and have a massive amount of pride in every PPF job we send out our door.

With A-Plus, you don’t have to worry about your vehicle being damaged in the installation process, which is common amongst inexperienced installers. My last two personal vehicles I purchased used, both with PPF installed prior from unknown shops, both vehicles had MASSIVE cut marks in my paint and trim. Ironically, did more damage than any rock would’ve done, had the previous owners known the possibilities of this damage beforehand, perhaps they would have done more research and found a shop who has experienced installers. In my case, I wish both cars I’m referencing didn’t have any PPF on them ever, because to make right calls for a total respray of the bumpers. That goes to show when you see a car for sale with “PPF installed on front clip” or even full car, is sometimes a red flag depending on who installed the PPF. If installed properly, this can be a massive bonus when buying a used vehicle (especially if you can get any documentation, warranties, or receipts with install date, brand of PPF, or installer). FINDING A REPUTABLE WINDOW TINT SHOP NEAR YOU

For many folks, window tinting is the first, and sometimes the only after-market item they will install on their vehicle. Whether it’s your first or 10th car, it’s never too late to learn about the incredible benefits of ceramic window tint and where to get it installed.

Most towns have that one “mega” tint shop that you hear ads for on the radio and perhaps a great road-side location. Or maybe the small mom and pop shop that doesn’t charge an arm and a leg to tint your vehicle. While we do see the benefits of both business models, and I don’t think either are “wrong”. Having a high-volume shop or the opposite, a small operation with 1-2 employees can ultimately mean your vehicle isn’t getting the full attention it needs during the tint installation.

We feel as if our operation and the attention to detail we put into every job is great neutral ground for what you should be expecting in your local tint shop. By not being a high-volume shop prevents us from having to rush your vehicle or have 2-3 different sets of hands on your vehicle. On the flip side, by not trying to be the most affordable shop in town, means we can offer our clients a range of higher quality ceramic films that you can expect amazing results from. Everyone must start somewhere, we sure had to! If anyone has been following A-Plus from the beginning, you would remember the 600-sqft bay I worked out of by myself from 2012-2014 (until I got into a larger space). This small shop bay taught me a lot about business and fed my hunger to want to keep growing into what we are today – A high quality, low volume shop that can focus on the customer.

By having dedicated installers on your vehicle, we can focus on you, the client. We can really dissect and figure out what you’re looking for in a window tint. This allows Tim, our client specialist, to comfortably discuss your options without feeling rushed because his main goal is to educate clients and answer any questions you may have. Once Tim passes the keys off to Frank, it’s now Frank’s turn to tint your windows. Having Frank exclusively focused on installing tint and Tim exclusively focused on making sure our clients are satisfied, it leaves no room for anyone to feel rushed or like the client isn’t getting our full attention. It also ensures that your window tint is going to look great and everyone’s on the same page! How can you tell if a shop has experienced installers? Unfortunately, there’s no system or legitimate schooling for this line of work. There are thousands of courses you can take in person and online that will give you a piece of paper stating “you can now install window tint” after a 2–3-day course. I personally believe these certificates mean absolutely nothing as you cannot learn any of the services we offer in 2-3 months, let alone 2-3 days. It takes YEARS to become proficient in tinting windows, anyone can wipe off a side window and stick a pre-cut piece of tint on. But it takes a lot of patience and practice to ensure that you have no dirt, no debris, no creases, no hairs, or old glue left over in the prep. Preparation is one of many stages of installation that requires more than your average “eye for detail”. There are also many precautions we take with certain brand vehicles that an inexperienced window tint installer may not be aware of. There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes steps in the process that we take to make sure you leave with a tint job you and we are proud of.

Sometimes the best way to see what a tint shop is capable of, is literally showing up to their location and requesting to see their work, whether its an employee’s vehicle, or a vehicle they’re working on, just check out the operation, check the cleanliness, ask how long the installer has been installing film. These all seem like simple/direct questions and ques to check for, but it’s usually the most forward way of finding out what to expect from them. Google reviews are also a huge factor when finding the right tint shop, most google reviews are honest, real people who want to express their experience with potential future clients. If your local tint shop has a lot of good google reviews, that’s a great indication that the community trusts them, and you can too. Cheapest is not the best, especially when it comes to window tint. Materials alone usually dictate the overall price of your tint job. We have local shops who tint full sedans for $130 and look great, but they used extremely cheap tint resulting in fading and bubbling down the road. There’s also shops that charge $500 for the same car but have inexperienced installers who may cut up your window gaskets or trim. Again, we feel our operation is the perfect blend of great high-quality installs paired with an amazing brand like XPEL, it’s a no-brainer to go with a shop that has an experienced team and great materials, it’ll pay off in 5 years when your tint still looks just as great as the day we installed it!

Ask about their warranty! Warranties are huge when it comes to window tint because without a warranty, you have no ground to stand on if your tint starts bubbling or fading. ALL our window tint comes with a free lifetime warranty which covers the tint itself from failing or prematurely fading. We also warranty our installation for a lifetime for free, so if any corners start peeling or if there’s simply something you’re not too keen about, we will replace it and make sure there’s no issues moving forward. Aside from that, we do offer a “no fault” warranty, which we sell as a separate option for those clients that may have kids, or pets that are more prone to scratching or damaging the tint by themselves. This no-fault warranty will cover the replacement of any window in the future for any reason no questions asked. Most folks don’t need the no fault warranty but it’s a nice option to have if you want to make sure you’re protected against literally anything. WINDOW TINT LAWS IN MARYLAND

Every state has a specific percentage you’re allowed to tint your windows. Most of these limits are light on the scale of darkness, this is so law enforcement can easily see who is inside the vehicle.

Window Tint Laws in Maryland state that you are legally allowed to have 35% VLT (visible light transmission) on your sides and rear windows of any 2-door coupe or 4 door sedan.

Trucks and SUV’s can darken their rear windows as much as they’d like as there isn’t any laws set for the rear windows for trucks and SUV’s. Trucks and SUV’s must still have 35% or above on the two front side roll down windows to pass inspection.

Legally the only tint you’re allowed to have on your windshield is a 5” strip on the top of the glass, this has many nicknames you’ll hear “windshield visor”, “front strip”, “front brow”, all mean the same thing. The front strip is traditionally 5% dark to block as much sunlight possible.

How we make sure you stay legal

Every vehicle on the road has a very light tint on the glass from factory. This is a dye built in the glass, it cannot be removed and is often metered around 70-75% VLT. Because of this very light dye, it can alter the shade of tint you install and can cause your windows to be illegal.

For instance, if we installed a 35% exact tint to your windows, after installation they would meter closer to 30% causing them to be illegal. To combat this, we use XPEL CS 43%, XR 45% and XR+ 45% if you want to stay legal. When you install any of these films, you will safely be around 40% VLT after installation and that would be the darkest you would get without dipping under that 35% mark.

I see other cars on the road with dark window tint, why?

Not everyone abides by the law when it comes to window tinting, some folks will tint their windows extremely dark and simply risk the consequences of getting a repair order or ticket and having to remove your tint. We always suggest staying legal when it comes to darkening your windows, the best part about our XR ceramic tint is you can block 80% of the heat without having to go dark at all.

A few other reasons you might see dark tint on cars driving around, not all states have the same legal limits, in Pennsylvania you’re not allowed to have any window tint, and in Florida you’re allowed to have 28% tint. You may come across a driver from another state, or perhaps someone in Maryland with a medical condition such as skin cancer, sun sensitivity, or glare issues when driving can sometimes get you a medical waiver allowing any darkness to be applied to your vehicle.

Lastly, trucks and SUV’s come from the factory with a 20% dye in the rear windows, because of this, no state can regulate the rear darkness of trucks, SUV’s or anything else that comes with factory rear window tint. When your vehicle has this built into the glass, the dye does not block any heat but does add privacy. Some clients will choose to darken the rear windows or apply a light shade to just block heat.

Terminology

These are the terms you need to know in order to interpret the various state laws and limits.

VLT% : Visible light transmission is the measurement used to assess automotive window tints. This is the percent of visible light that gets through either the film (film VLT%) or window plus film net VLT%. The lower the VLT%, the darker the tint.
Front-side window tint level : This is the amount of tint (VLT%) you’re allowed on your driver and front passenger windows. This is frequently a higher value than for the rear, which allows the driver of the vehicle to be seen from outside.
Rear-side window tint level : This is the amount of tint (VLT%) you’re allowed on your rear side windows. This value is sometimes different for passenger cars and multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs).
Rear window tint level : This is the amount of tint (VLT%) you’re allowed on your rear window. This value is typically the same as for the rear side windows, but some states are more restrictive.
Windshield : Your windshield cannot be tinted in any state, but some states allow you to add a sticker to the top of the windshield, usually in the area of the manufacturer’s sun shield.
Color : The state laws on tint color vary from no restrictions at all to restrictions on the use of certain colors or reflective/mirrored finishes.
AS-1 Line : This is the line extending from the letters AS-1, found on most motor vehicle windshields, running parallel to the top of the windshield.

We had the pleasure of protecting this beautiful brand-new Porsche GT3 with our premium XPEL products. Naturally when you think Porsche, “track” comes to mind. If you own a Porsche, you’re aware no other car feels as planted and ready to rip around corners and bends quite like a Porsche. While the car wants to be driven hard and spirted, the paint on the other hand is usually compromised when driven this hard. That’s where we come into play!

Considering XPEL is the official window tint, ceramic coating and PPF for the Porsche Club of America (PCA). It’s a match made in heaven when you protect your Porsche with XPEL products. XPEL recognizes these cars deserve the best film on the market, and our DAP software provided by XPEL, has every older & new Porsche model perfectly plotted within. Meaning we can plot (cut) out your entire car from our Graphtec FC9000 plotter, resulting in zero trimming or cutting on your actual paint. Which is a massive advantage we have over other shops who don’t offer XPEL or have a plotter.

Here we have our master PPF technician Zac, applying XPEL PPF to the full rear quarter panel of the GT3. Its crucial we prepare the paint prior to installation, to give us the best results possible. Every prep starts with a thorough decontamination wash which includes safely removing any iron build-up or “rail-dust” that almost all new cars suffer from. Once we remove all transportation and dealership grime and build-up. We can safely polish the paint and get all swirls and scratches out before we lay film down. Although not always necessary, a light polish helps the film bond and prevents any deep scratches from showing through the PPF.

Although we protected every exterior painted panel on the car, the windshield was left unprotected. Fortunately, we also offer STEK Dynoflex windshield PPF. A definite wear & tear item, the Dynoflex prevents the windshield from getting little micro-pitting and prevents rock chips and cracks. Its longevity doesn’t hang up there with regular PPF, but you can expect 2-3 years of use with Dynoflex before the windshield wipers start scratching and swirling the film. A must-have for any car with expensive windshield replacements or hard-to-get OEM glass!

We couldn’t forget the window tint! These particular clients usually don’t opt for window tint, but we informed them of all the benefits XPEL XR nano-ceramic tint has to offer. After they realized the XR tint can block up to 88% of the heat, the clear answer was to get those windows tinted! Nano-ceramic tint is great because we can install a light shade of tint, while still blocking 88% of the heat which is unreal. Tint technology has come a long way and we’re so grateful to offer and use the best tint on the market.

Our favorite part about this particular car was its third pedal! Porsche does an outstanding job keeping the track vibe alive throughout the years and we love to see the manual gearbox as an option with these 2022 models. It was a pleasure protecting one of the first GT3’s in the area and can’t wait to see how great the XPEL holds up over the next decade for our clients! What exactly is “Paint protection film”? – The easy answer is “a clear polyurethane film that protects your paint from rock chips and scratches”. The longer scientific answer lies between each manufacture and what type of film you’re referencing. Most Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films are UV resistant & are designed to withstand the outside elements. The films durability and elasticity are what make it an amazing solution for protecting your cars paint.

Not all films are created equally, when talking about XPEL STEALTH PPF, the stealth term is referring to the film’s satin, or “flat” topcoat. Compared to the traditional gloss film, the Stealth finish does not reflect or shine like the gloss. It has a flat and bold appearance that allows you to see just the vehicle, without any distracting reflections. Some vehicles simply look better with a satin finish, vehicles with hard body lines or beautiful curves, or any black/grey/white car, are all great candidates for stealth PPF.

You of course need to cover the entire exterior of the vehicle when going STEALTH, which makes it a great alternative to full gloss PPF, if you did in fact decide to protect your full vehicle. Protecting your entire vehicle is quite the investment, and when going with gloss you don’t get any noticeable changes once the job is complete. Fortunately, when going stealth you get a sleek satin finish along with the protection you would find in our gloss PPF.

#1) RESIST STAINS WITH EASE (AND SCIENCE)

-XPEL STEALTH PPF has a very low surface energy, meaning it’ll resist staining and offers ultimate protection against tree sap, bird crap, and anything else that can damage your unprotected paint! Our favorite part about XPEL Stealth is the satin clear coat carries special elastomeric polymers that allow light scratching and swirls to “heal” with heat or hot water over time- yes that’s exactly what it sounds like, SELF HEALING… Adding to its glory, Stealth’s satin finish doesn’t allow dirt and grim to stick as easily compared to a glossy finish product. A high surface energy material would be glass for example, anything adhesive/sticky is going to stick to glass the best because of the strong molecular attraction in its chemical make-up. A low surface energy material like XPEL STEALTH or plastic for example, has a very weak molecular attraction and makes things like tree sap very hard to adhere too!

#2) PROTECT YOUR OEM SATIN PAINT

Stealth PPF is necessary for any vehicle that comes with a “frozen” or satin paint job from factory. When you purchase a frozen painted car (BMW, Mercedes, Lamborghini, etc…), the satin paint is very delicate and can scratch extremely easily. Most dealerships will recommend Stealth PPF because you cannot polish or “correct” satin paint, if you get a scratch in the finish, you can’t fix it. With XPEL Stealth PPF, you don’t have to worry about the delicate paint and can drive without worry. If you’re simply looking for that frozen factory finish but have a gloss painted car, Stealth PPF will make your paint appear just like the “frozen” version of itself!

#3) KEEP-UP YOUR VEHICLES VALUE!

“Can you remove PPF?”, absolutely! XPEL’s high performance acrylic adhesive is designed to resist delamination, will not damage the paint or leave glue behind upon removal. PPF’s main purpose is to protect your paint and keep the condition of the exterior “brand new”. It would be extremely counterproductive if the PPF damaged your paint upon removal. PPF should be removed once the film either starts showing signs of wear or when the client wants to sell the vehicle. If you leave PPF installed for longer than the warranty suggests, the film becomes brittle and awfully difficult to remove. If you remove film at a healthy stage, it’ll remove in entire sheets and won’t affect your paint in any negative manner.

2009 AUDI R8 – THE $10,000 WRAP PROJECT

The Audi R8 was the companies first mid-engine supercar. It was designed with extreme performance in mind and with other high-end sports cars in its sights. Since 2008, these amazing vehicles have made their way state-side and opened doors to a new budget friendly supercar. Since their debut, some of these cars get driven hard, some tracked, some stowed away in museums never to see the light of day. This unit made its way around North America before landing in Harford County Maryland. With only 24,000 miles on the odometer, it was shocking to see the despairing condition of the paint when she first arrived.

Not all vehicles are maintained the same way, and everyone’s definition of a professional detail is slightly different. Here at A-PLUS TINT + PPF, we look past the quick gimmicks and want nothing more than your paint to be in the most pristine condition possible. We were saddened to see the rough condition of this 11-year-old paint when she rolled off the trailer. After an extremely thorough examination, it appeared the paint was never properly polished and coated with anything. Wearing water spots, scratches and swirls with very little pride, we knew we had a huge project on our hands.

The first plan of action was to remove and replace the window tint with our XPEL PRIME XR+ window tint and install our windshield protection film! After removing the old mystery tint, we can rest assure the R8 now has the highest-grade window tint on the market. Our windshield protection film is also an amazing service we provide to anyone who never wants to deal with the headache of replacing your windshield.

After polishing the paint out to a crystal-clear finish, we decided we wanted to wrap the R8 in an eye-catching new color. The black Is beautiful, but we can always remove the wrap down the road and reveal that beautiful metallic black paint once again. After long consideration, we landed on Porsche Maritime Blue vinyl wrap. We wanted something that flowed with the carbon fiber accents, something that wasn’t too bright (yellow or orange), and something that was easy on the eyes.

After dismantling all the major panels, we started laying down some vinyl! This brand of vinyl is not the easiest to work with, the R8 has some tricky panels such as the front clam/hood and bumpers. The front hood is only difficult because it measures larger than the vinyl is made, which requires a big stretch and a lot of heat! The benefits of this brand vinyl is, super glossy, paint like finish that most other brands don’t offer. Only downside is it doesn’t install like normal vinyl and doesn’t share the same properties as 3M, Avery, Oracal, and other big brands. The adhesive is heat activated and its very important to make sure you go over all edges and corners 2-3 times with your heat gun to make sure everything is sealed up. The results are amazing and if installed correctly, you can fool the average person into thinking you have an actual paint job.

Once we wrapped up our final pieces in blue, a tough, conscious, and expensive decision had to be made. We wanted to fully protect the wrap with our XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS PPF (paint protection film). This is ordinarily a service provided to protect your paint from getting stone chips, scratches, or any medium-light damage. This service can typically range from $6500-8500 to cover an entire vehicle. Most of the time, just protecting the “front clip” will suffice, in this case we wanted all the vinyl to be protected. Fortunately, XPEL makes a 72” wide gloss PPF, we were able to use that on the hood which helped tremendously during install. The entire car was covered in XPEL PPF over top the vinyl wrap, was it an overkill? Absolutely! But it looks incredible and is resilient to any damage to the existing paint underneath, which is a HUGE plus!

Once the XPEL PPF (paint protection film) is fully cured, the finish is unlike any other! On top of the glossiest vinyl, it truly looks like paint. The major benefit of having XPEL PPF is now the entire vehicle has a thick and clear urethane layer that is extremely difficult to puncture and scratch. We fully wrap every edge and corner carefully to ensure the best finish for the long term. We topped the PPF off with our Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra Ceramic coating. Adding even more gloss and a super hydrophobic topcoat that helps with cleaning and staining!

Since we completed the most expensive wrap job on this R8, it has undergone a few more modifications such as Air Suspension and Vossen wheels!
